Some 13.8 billion years ago, God said, "Let there be light!" And the universe winked into instantaneous, spectacular, ever-expanding existence. The application of Einsteinian relativistic physics to astronomy enabled a Belgian Catholic priest, the Abbe Georges Lemaitre, to establish scientifically early in the 20th century that there had indeed been a moment of creation, just as Genesis had recorded. Scientific and religious truth converged.
How do we know that the Big Bang – cosmogonists' term for the moment of creation – happened just less than 14 billion years ago? One method was NASA's anisotropy probe, which crossed a vast region of space and, using its journey as a baseline, measured infinitesimal variations in the intensity of the cosmic background radiation that is the omnipresent remnant of creation itself.
Another method involved observing the rate at which the universe's expansion is accelerating and working backward. These and other methods all produce much the same answer. We know, therefore, that the universe God created is very old.

A misunderstanding of the possible meanings of Hebrew word for "day" led some to assume that the universe was made in just six days. In fact, it was made in the blink of an eye, and it has been unfolding according to God's laws ever since. Each "day" in Genesis is an aeon.
The God of the Pentateuch is described as the "God of Truth." Jesus Christ described Himself as "the Way, the Truth and the Life." And he promised to send the "Spirit of Truth," the comforter, to support those who dared to tell the truth in the face of the world's hostility.

The fundamental principle of logic – so basic that it is regrettably seldom stated in any textbook – is that everything that is true is consistent with everything else that is true, and everything that is false is inconsistent with everything that is true.
From this principle, it necessarily follows that the laws of physics by which the universe has been governed ever since they came into being an instant after the Big Bang are truths as godly as the truths of the Christian religion, and are fully consistent with them.

The genuine scientist, then, is what the Eastern founder of the scientific method, Abu Ali al-Haytham, said he is: "the seeker after truth." Theology and science travel via revelation and observation respectively toward the same destination: the truth.
Today, however, there are many factions that specialize in artful repudiation and denial of the truth – and not merely the truth of religion but also the truth for which scientists seek.
In politics, one faction – the left – has become habitually mendacious. That habit of disregard for the objective truth is costly and dangerous. Costly because error is expensive and persistent error is persistently expensive. Dangerous because the left is the totalitarian faction, and it arrogantly demands and enforces abject deference not to what is true but to what is "politically correct," whether or not it is true.
The great lie of fascism – a hard-left movement now all but wiped out – was that the Jews were not human. The great lie of communism – still unfortunately going strong over the counter in the world's most populous nation and under the counter almost everywhere else – is that all who disagree with the party line are not human and may be slaughtered at will. These two great lies led to at least 100 million deaths in the 20th century.
The great lie of hard-left totalitarianism's new face – environmentalist extremism – is that those who question how much warming we shall cause by converting one part in 2500 of the air from oxygen to plant food in the next 100 years are anti-human and should be executed.

With increasing frequency, the so-called "greens" are demanding show trials for the likes of me on grounds of "high crimes against humanity," as a now-retired NASA communist used to put it. "Kill them, kill them all!" is their cry.
Common to all the manifestations of leftist totalitarianism is an utter disregard for the very concept of objective truth.
Mr. Obama says the birth certificate on the White House website is genuine. It is obviously false. Mr Obama says global warming is happening faster than expected. It has not happened at all for 18 years and two months. Mr Obama says you can keep your existing doctor if you want. No, you can't. Mr Obama said he would cut the national debt. He has more than doubled it in just seven years.
When I wrote a series of columns about the medical dangers of homosexuality a few weeks back, there were shrieks of rage from one faction – the left. They tried to say my facts and figures were false. Yet every fact and every figure was not only true but carefully referenced. Why, then, the knee-jerk reaction? Because the facts did not fit the party line, and the party line must prevail.

Mr. Obama's plan to get the power-hungry EPA to make laws to wreck the nation's electricity generating system is unconstitutional because Article 1, Section 1 of the Constitution reserves all legislative power to Congress, and because Congress has expressly forbidden the EPA to regulate power plants in the manner it now proposes. That is the truth. But the left cares nothing for the truth. Their absolute disregard for absolute truth has made a mockery of democracy and the Constitution.
Let us hope, then, that in 2015 the opponents of the lying left in the United States and beyond will persist in stating the truth and in demanding that the left do the same. The left will spit and snarl, and will follow the Saul Alinsky tactic of denigrating anyone who dares to speak up for the truth.
Yet we must continue to speak up for it. Let our manifesto for 2015 be the manifesto of the Lord of Life before Pilate: "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth."
Let 2015 be the year of truth, and let the left and its media poodles learn to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, or be forever silent. Great is truth and mighty above all things.
A happy New Year to one and all.
