(IDAHO STATESMAN) — HAYDEN, Idaho — A 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse at a North Idaho Wal-Mart and her concealed gun fired, authorities said Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Veronica J. Rutledge of Blackfoot, Idaho. She was shopping with family members, said Lt. Stu Miller with the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office. The 2-year-old was riding in a shopping cart, pulled the small-caliber handgun from her purse and shot her, he said.
"She was a beautiful young loving mother who was taken much too soon," said her father-in-law Terry Rutledge. "She was out on what was supposed to be a fun-filled day with her son and nieces."
