(ENEWSCOURIER) — A former Athens High School student, Rashaun Tyree Anderson, has been formally charged by a Limestone County grand jury in the stabbing of another AHS student in October.
The grand jury handed down the indictment Dec. 11 and it has just been made public. This preliminary notice of indictment does not, however, indicate whether the grand jury indicted Anderson on a charge of second-degree assault, which was his initial charge, or whether it upgraded the charge to first-degree assault. Limestone County District Attorney Brian Jones said Wednesday he could not disclose that information at this time. He said that information would be made public after the paperwork goes to Circuit Court.
Anderson, 16, of 2029 Luke St., Athens, is accused of stabbing 18-year-old fellow football player Tarik Malone about 2 p.m. Oct. 28 in the high school’s field house after an argument ensued. Other players were present and some took video.
