Rep. David Young, R-Iowa
Republicans in Iowa's 3rd congressional district sent a freshman representative to Congress in the 2014 election, and they're putting his feet to the fire already, demanding he vote against John Boehner, R-Ohio, for speaker of the House.
Rep. David Young was just sworn in to his first federally elected office Saturday, and by Sunday, his constituents let him know exactly what they want him to do with Beohner Tuesday.

"It has become blatantly obvious that Speaker Boehner has been ineffective in opposing President Obama's agenda since becoming Speaker in 2010," reads a Jan. 4 letter to Young from Jeff Jorgensen, chairman of the Pottawattamie County Republican Central Committee, according to the Iowa Statesman. "Simply put, Speaker Boehner has been politically out-classed and will continue to be ineffective in mounting any kind of opposition that would roll back the president's agenda.
"As such, on behalf of Pottawattamie County Republican Executive Committee members Jan Tatum and Myra Nixon," Jorgensen continues, "I ask you to vote against John Boehner for speaker of the House when the new Congress convenes this week."

The pressure on Young is palpable, as Pottawattamie is the second most populous county in Young's district and, according to the Iowa Secretary of State's Office, has the second largest number of active Republican voters.

The new Congress will be seated Tuesday, and one of the first orders of business will be to choose a speaker of the House. The current speaker, Boehner, faces two challengers from his own party so far – Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas and Ted Yoho of Florida.
As WND reported, Boehner also faces the wrath of the party faithful, 60 percent of whom want him out, according to a recent poll, while only 25 percent of GOP voters want him to keep the job.

Young's chief of staff, James Carstensen, told WND the congressman had not yet seen the letter from the Pottawattamie County GOP, but his vote for speaker is still very much "in process."
"The congressman, as he promised during his run for office, said he would interview anyone who is interested in the job for speaker," Carstensen told WND. "He is aware that two candidates have surfaced in the news in last 24 hours. Neither have reached out to Young, but Young has reached out to them. He has spoken to one so far, while the other is traveling. He will interview Boehner as well."
