"Your swag is not doing anything for me right now"
A group of Chicago residents gathered to comment on President Obama's State of the Union Address last week. What they said revealed the awakening of Americans who, until now, supported him unquestioningly.
Their message to him, "Was it all about using us? … He doesn't care about our people; he doesn't care about us."

Colin Woodard, state and national affairs writer at the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, who authored a book about our national make-up, excepted it in a November 2013 piece he wrote for Tufts University's alumni magazine.
"The battle lines of today's debates over gun control, stand-your-ground laws, and other violence-related issues were drawn centuries ago by America's early settlers," he argues.
Here's a map that depicts the nation's divisions: Yankeedom, New Netherland, The Midlands, Tidewater, Greater Appalachia, Deep South, El Norte, Left Coast, Far West, New France and First Nation.

"There's never been an America, but rather several Americas – each a distinct nation. There are eleven nations today. Each looks at violence, as well as everything else, in its own way," he wrote.
His description of each region is a fascinating look at how ancestry shapes our contemporary views on social issues. But does it take into account those of us who have moved away from our childhood region?

Cartoons and YouTube stars.
Funny cartoons sprouted up all over the Internet last week when President Barack Obama met with three bloggers after giving his State of the Union Address. One that was particularly well received was this one drawn by syndicated cartoonist Chip Bok, aka "BokBluster."
On his website, Bok wrote, "One day YouTube star GloZell Green is thrashing in her milk-filled bath tub bobbing for Fruit Loops. Next thing you know she's interviewing the president of the United States.

"The president is concerned that the dignity of his office has been gravely damaged – by Speaker Boehner," Bok continued. "John Boehner invited the Israeli prime minister to speak to Congress. Bibi accepted. Obama blew his lid."
Bok finished the piece with this non sequitur: "Meanwhile the president dissed the Main Stream Media. They've long been in the tank for him. Now he's in the tub with GloZell. But it wasn't all milk and Fruit Loops. GloZell upstaged the msm with a question about Cuba. She demanded to know how he could 'justify negotiating with the guy who puts the dick in dictatorship.'"
Ba-da-bing!
Actor Rob Lowe was among those tweeting about it.

History quiz
Have you any idea what this is?

You'll have to look at each of the photos to make the journey through a strange labyrinth of tunnels. It's eerie. This feature gives no conclusion as to their purpose. Do you have any idea?
"Deep in the woods in the middle of northern Germany there are strange, periscope-like pipes that are jutting out of the ground. One day, a group of friends stumbled across them in the former German Democratic Republic territory. They decided to explore the area, even though it seemed a little dangerous. What they found hidden beneath the ground was historically interesting ... but also terrifying."
