A floating wish from a teenage daughter to her dad found its way into the hearts of some folks hundreds of miles away. When 16-year-old Ashlynn Marracino of southern California sent up a Mylar balloon upon which she had written a note to her father who had died several years before, she asked him for a sign that he had received her message.

The white balloon floated northward some 430 miles before touching down in the parking lot of a restaurant aptly named “Local Heroes.” What happened next could be interpreted as the sign this daughter was hoping for.

Composition by “The Birds”

No, not the 60’s British group! (Although they did sing “Eight Miles High.“)

Here’s the story: “One morning while reading a newspaper, Jarbas Agnelli saw a photograph of birds on an electric wire. He cut out the photo and was inspired to make a song using the exact location of the birds as musical notes. He was curious to hear what melody the birds created.

“He sent the music to the photographer, Paulo Pinto, who told his editor, who told a reporter and the story ended up as an interview in the newspaper. It ended up Winner of the YouTube Play Guggenheim Biennial Festival.”

Listen to the beautiful resulting sounds that originated with birds on the wire.

This has to qualify for the most endearing little video I’ve come across. It’s been shared hundreds of thousands of times. When you watch it, you’ll want to share it too, compliments of Daniel Amos on Facebook, whose site is among the most uplifting I’ve come across. Watch it. Forty seconds of pure adorable.

A novel experience

What literary character are you most like? Take the quiz to find out. Thinking I might be a great novelist (ahem), I’m surprised to learn my literary twin is Hermione Granger, Harry Potter’s friend! Who is yours?

Wiping tears …

If you haven’t seen this yet, you’ve got to watch this 20-year veteran of the Dover, Delaware, Police Department “Shake it Off” to the music. Caught on his dash cam, the police officer got into it with Taylor Swift, lip synching to the song as he patrolled the streets.

Dover PD wrote on its Facebook page: “While reviewing dashcam footage, we come across some interesting sights to say the least. We decided we would share some with you in a new web series called ‘Dash Cam Confessionals.’ We hope you enjoy this … and Taylor Swift if you’re watching … we’re sorry.”

Wrote one viewer: “At first I was like, ‘Ah, cool. Rock it. Guy’s having a good time.’ Then the poker face. … I spit half-chewed chips all over my laptop, half of which went up the back end of my nose. But I can’t stop laughing, so naturally I aspirate whatever’s left in there and now I’m choking, I can’t see, I have chips in my nasal passages.”

The video of Officer Jeffrey Davis has over 10 million views to date, no doubt getting him plenty of ribbing. But no matter. Officer Davis knows how to “Shake it off!”

Oops

In last week’s Surfing’ Safari (Pillars of Creation Evaporating), I mentioned that Communion was offered on the moon by astronaut Buzz Aldrin. The sacramental act was later reported in Guidepost magazine.

I received a correction from reader Ted in Bellevue, Nebraska, who wrote: “I enjoy your ‘Surfin’ Safari’ feature on WorldNetDaily. One correction regarding the report regarding Communion on the moon. The article identifies Guideposts as ‘a Catholic magazine.’ Guideposts is not Catholic; it is an interfaith publication. Most of the editors and writers are Protestant. It was founded by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, long-time Senior Minister of Marble Collegiate Church, which is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America.”

Thanks for setting the record straight, Ted!
