“Selma” – a movie focused on Dr. King’s 1965 historical march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, has put Dr. King’s message front and center.
I was born in Alabama and participated in civil rights marches. No doubt Dr. King would be proud of how far we’ve come as Americans, yet shocked by how his message has been hijacked, and now completely derailed by black “leaders.”
You know that the movement has been derailed when the most pressing issue is the lack of Oscar nominations for black actors and actresses. “Selma” was nominated for Best Picture – but that didn’t stop Al Sharpton from calling for an emergency meeting with Hollywood executives and threatening possible action on Oscar night.
Sharpton also recently went after Sony Pictures and Chairwoman Amy Pascal for her leaked emails in which she joked that Obama probably liked stereotypical black movies like “Django” or “The Butler.” Pascal, who is a major donor for the Democratic Party, and Obama apologized and met with Sharpton to discuss creating more opportunities for minorities (i.e.: Sharpton’s friends).
The fact is, the average American can’t stomach the pompous race hustler. According to a recent Fox News poll, only 19 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of Sharpton. Yet among blacks, he has a 56 percent favorable rating! What’s going on here?
Recently I was talking with a family member who’s educated, and I asked him what he thought about Sharpton. He replied that he likes Sharpton and that, since blacks have been oppressed, they need a “watchdog” to look out for their interests.
The truth is – if you support a racist, then that makes you a racist. Racist black people demand racist representatives, and that explains how a man most of America thinks is an utter joke can be seen as a hero in the black community. Obama has also elevated Sharpton’s profile by making him the White House point person on race issues (one racist enabling another).
Another example that the civil rights movement has been derailed: Oprah Winfrey will lead a march in Selma on MLK Day. Oprah is a producer of the film “Selma,” but she’s far from an ambassador for racial unity.
Oprah became a billionaire because white female viewers made her ABC show a hit. But in an interview about race, Winfrey said older whites in the South would “just have to die” for racism to end. She also said that many of Obama’s critics were racists. Truly – Dr. King would be offended by this ungrateful racist.
Civil rights co-opted by thugs and Muslims
Extremist groups such as Occupy Wall Street, Communist Party USA, Sharpton’s National Action Network and the New Black Panther Party have recently sided with black law-breaking thugs against police. Some of these groups have encouraged riots, looting and violence toward cops in Ferguson and New York City in the name of civil rights. Their incitement even led to the shooting death of two NYPD officers. So much for the principle of non-violence.
Muslims are the latest group hijacking the civil rights movement. Some Muslims in the U.S. are evoking Dr. King’s name as they claim to be victims of “Islamophobia.” They’re also calling for an end to profiling and demanding that law enforcement stop surveillance activities against mosques.
After the sickening slaying of 12 employees of Charlie Hedbo magazine in Paris, instead of marching against Islamic violence, American Muslims held a “Stand with the Prophet” event in Garland, Texas. One of their speakers was an imam from New York who was listed as an “un-indicted co-conspirator” in the 1993 terror World Trade Center bombing.
Yet we’re supposed to accept that Islam is a religion of peace and is in agreement with MLK’s message of nonviolence?!
Barack Obama was rightfully criticized for not attending or sending a U.S. representative to Paris in the aftermath of the Charlie Hedbo massacre. Obama gives lip service to Dr. King’s words but he refuses to confront the greatest evil in our time. To the contrary – his actions show an affinity for this evil. Obama has twisted Dr. King’s dream into a pretzel.
Obama did finally dispatch Secretary of State John Kerry to Paris, along with singer James Taylor. In what was billed as a show of solidarity, Taylor played a rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend.” Apparently Barney was booked and couldn’t make the trip.
Yet, the key roadblock to getting Dr. King’s dream back on track is not Al Sharpton, Oprah, anti-cop groups, violent Islamists or even Obama. If every one of these racists and enemies of America went away tomorrow, it still would not remove the racism that lies in the heart of most black Americans. (Remember, 56 percent of blacks have a favorable opinion of Sharpton and voted twice for Obama in overwhelming numbers.)
No – the key to achieving Dr. King’s dream is black Americans repenting of their hatred toward white Americans; and if they will not, then no amount of white apologies, shakedown money, or Oscar nominations will restore their souls, or racial tranquility in our nation.
