Mr. Obama is none too happy when he mentions "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," the three unalienable rights that your Founding Fathers wished to establish. These three rights are described in the Declaration of Independence as having been endowed upon men "by their Creator."
Indeed, life proceeds from God the Father. Our liberty from Satan was won for us on the cross by God the Son, and the pursuit of happiness – deeply rooted not only in the meditations of the saints, fathers and doctors of the church but also, particularly, in the English Christian tradition, is the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The letters of St. Thomas More, for instance, often speak of "merriment" and look forward to the day when we shall be "merry in heaven."
Behind the Declaration of Independence, then, lies a profound theological statement that the trinity of rights that is at once its inspiration and its object was endowed upon us by the Holy Trinity.

Yet Mr. Obama, who is prone to burble about his "Muslim faith" and to be mealy mouthed about Christianity even during National Prayer Breakfasts, seldom mentions the phrase "by their Creator" when he quotes the Declaration of Independence on the trinity of rights.
Mr. Obama drops that vital phrase, which speaks of the passionate Christian beliefs of those who first set sail on the Mayflower, of so many who followed them and of the Founding Fathers themselves.

It is no accident that totalitarian regimes attempt either to nationalize religion, as in China, or to persecute it, as in Nazi Germany. Those whose arrogant ambition is total control over every last detail of the life of every last citizen, down to the last flickering, poison-filled light-bulb, detest any competition for the loyalty of the people.
Those who wish to play God do not wish to acknowledge God. Hence, Mr. Obama's telling silence. During his first election campaign, he made some pretense at being a Christian. Now he is more and more openly Muslim. He treats Christianity either with sneering indifference or with outright contempt.
Mr. Obama's anti-Christian stance is something his Republican opponents should openly condemn. They need to start making serious inroads into the black and Hispanic vote. Many blacks are Protestant; most Hispanics are Catholic. At present, they vote "Democrat" without thinking further than the next food stamp or benefit check.
They might think again if they realized the extent to which today's "Democrats" not merely oppose but actively hate Christianity. For Christians believe that killing a baby in its mother's womb is wrong; that the promiscuous, predatory and medically dangerous forms of homosexuality are wrong; that marriage is between one man and one woman, for the proper and happy upbringing of children; that the individual should be free to hold his beliefs even if they are not the beliefs of the state; that he should be free to put up a Christmas tree or a Star of David without his neighbors taking gratuitous offense; and that the state should make no law concerning any establishment of religion.
Totalitarians, on the other hand, regard any form of religious belief as anathema. The "Democrats" – who have been almost single-handedly responsible for the systematic erosion of the Christian beliefs, values and laws that your Founding Fathers had envisaged – now almost define themselves as the anti-Christian party.

Yet three-quarters of the population describes itself as Christian. Here is both the folly of the totalitarians and the opportunity for the Republicans. The GOP has been altogether too timid in the face of the shrieking fury that has now become the standard language of political debate on the "Democratic" or, rather, communist left.
One need only think of the vicious stunts and the foul hate-speech of the pro-death movement, which demands the right to kill their children, or the "gay rights" apparatchiks who demand to be given shared beds in Christian households.
Organized opposition to the few who do dare to speak out against the left is now so strong and so venomous that the many who are more and more concerned at the left's repudiation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness find it expedient to be silent.
In place of life, Mr. Obama and the "Democrats" offer death by abortion.

In place of liberty, they demand assent to all their false doctrines, and increasingly they seek to make "a window into men's souls," so that merely thinking independently becomes a crime punishable by death. James Hansen, for instance, the unlamented former head of the Goddard Institute of Far-Out Studies, often demanded trials for "high crimes against humanity," for which the penalty is death.
"Give me liberty, or give me death!" cried Patrick Henry. The "Democrats" give you death.
And what of the pursuit of happiness? The "Democrat" killjoys seem perpetually miserable. They spread gloom and doom wherever they go. Electric power? Motor vehicles? Airplanes? No, no, and thrice no: The "Democrats" pretend that all of these are bad for the planet.
How have the "Democrats" done such damage to your Founding Fathers' objectives? They have done it by suggesting extremist legislation, waiting until the initial flurry of opposition has died down, and then enacting it when people have become bored of the subject.
The Republicans, however, have been – until now – purely reactionary. They have passively waited until the left proposed some new outrage, have reacted against it ineffectually and have not proposed alternative legislation of their own.
It is time for lovers of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness to bring forward bill after bill to outlaw abortion, to require that the medical dangers of homosexuality be explained no less vigorously than the medical dangers of smoking, to halt all spending on making nonexistent global warming go away, to punish the scientific fraudsters who turned a non-problem into a profitable crisis, to reserve marriage for one man with one woman, to claw back the ground of freedom over which the "Democrats" have so cheerlessly, relentlessly trampled.
Where are the bills that will rebuild the freedoms for which your Founding Fathers fought and died? The continuing passivity of the GOP is now almost as much of a danger to the body politic as the deliberate damage the "Democrats" have caused.
The Republicans now command the House and the Senate. Soon, provided that they find a backbone and a candidate, they may command the White House, too. But their next term in office must not be merely a respite from the relentless advance of communism. They must relearn the art of initiating legislation rather than merely reacting to the proposals of their opponents. It is time for them to win back for us our Creator's endowment of freedom.
