Impeachment is simply a formal accusation of a crime or other serious misconduct brought against a public official by a legislature. Our constitutional standard is "treason, bribery or other high crimes or misdemeanors."
Thomas Sowell expects riots if Obama is impeached. This view, not unique, is a hobgoblin of unreasonable fear.
Impeachment is not a trial, a conviction or removal from office under our Constitution, but the process of impeachment is the best way, bar none, for our elected representatives in the House to formally bring to light the treacheries, lies, misdeeds, malfeasance and contemptuous unconstitutional actions of this president since January 2009. The process entails an investigation by House committee into impeachable conduct through the collection of evidence and testimony by witnesses under oath. Impeachment hearings will curb this president as not even a mid-term election could.

Consider the wrong message sent to future presidents if this one is never held accountable for gross violations of the public trust and abuse of power. The precedent of not holding impeachment hearings despite egregious misconduct by this president makes the House an accomplice and paves the way for tyranny and dictatorship.
Fear not, Mr. Sowell. The founders were wiser than any of us.
