If this were the scenario of a Hollywood movie, no one would believe it. After months and months of Congress digging and begging for information relating to Lois Lerner and her missing emails, after hours of testimony under oath by top IRS officials, new information has emerged on this scandal – and it is damning.
The American people and the House Oversight Committee have been led through a maze of convoluted truths and lies ever since this whole mess began. First Lois Lerner takes the Fifth after "testifying," and then all of her emails and hard drives go missing. Conveniently, even the people she sent emails to had their hard drives crash as well. According to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, those emails were long gone, and the hard drives had been recycled. End of story, fade to black.
You know how sometimes in the movies, the credits roll and you begin to file out of the theater thinking everything is over? Then all of a sudden the screen lights up again and they play another little teaser or blooper reel? Well, lo and behold, the IRS movie isn't over yet, either.

According to testimony by Timothy Camus, of the office of Treasury inspector general for tax administration, it seems that 33,000 of Lois Lerner's emails have been tracked down. Camus testified that he had obtained 744 backups tapes from a facility in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All he had to do was ask for them.
How is that possible Koskinen swore that the backups were of no use because the IRS overwrites them every six months? Hmmm, this just gets more interesting by the minute. As we dig further it seems that no one from the agency even asked for the tapes after the committee had requested them. I guess it just slipped their mind, or they were too busy trying to hide other things. Speaking of hiding other things, it also came to light that a document had been withheld by the IRS from the files that Mr. Camus had. The document was handed over, and as luck would have it, it showed that there were 424 more backup tapes! Now we have 1,168 tapes with potentially incriminating evidence on them.
TRENDING: Can chivalry survive Soros' NYC?
At this point in the testimony, the words "criminal activity" were levied. It seems that Lois Lerner and perhaps others could be brought up on charges of criminal wrongdoing. Once these tapes are scrutinized, who knows where this could lead? The IRS certainly put in an awful lot of effort to conceal, hide and obscure the information that is on them if there is not a "smidgen of corruption" involved.

I'm sure that this administration is hoping that people have moved on from this story and forgotten about the outright abuse coming from the IRS. After all, "that was last year, dude!" as a White House representative said about Benghazi. The White House doesn't even think this is a scandal, recently made clear by former adviser David Axelrod who said that "this was the most scandal-free administration in years." What planet is he living on?
I hope Reps. James Jordan, Jason Chaffetz and others on the committee hang on to this until they find every last email. The IRS needs to stop this abuse now, and the people involved in the targeting and the cover-up need to suffer the consequences.
If we let them skate on this one, there will be no precedent or leverage when it comes to the new FCC rules on net neutrality. If the IRS can get away with targeting and shutting down conservative voices, what do you think the FCC will do? Could it be that someday when you Google conservative websites, they won't be there? Don't kid yourself; it could and most probably will happen.
The IRS targeting is just the beginning in silencing our voices, and if we ignore it, we do so at our own peril.
