Facebook videos viewed nearly '4 billion times a day'

(OBSERVERCHRONICLE) — The quarterly video-view figures disclosed by Facebook are extremely noteworthy, especially against the backdrop of the fact that the company had said in January that its videos were viewed nearly 1 billion times a day.

Despite the fact that the ‘4 billion video views a day’ figure shared by Facebook during its 2015 first quarter earnings call could possibly underscore somewhat skewed statistics because videos on the social network play automatically, the figures still leave much untapped marketing potential.

To tap the unused marketing potential, Facebook now has efforts underway – via its new ‘Anthology’ effort – to hook up publishers that have the ability to produce viral content with Facebook advertisers, so as to create videos which will run on the social networking site.

Towards that end, Facebook’s Chief Operations Officer Sheryl Sandberg said on the earnings call that the company has always believed that “the format of our ads should follow the format of what consumers are doing on Facebook;” and added: “The fact that there’s so much consumer video that gives us the opportunity to do more marketing video as well.”

At its 2015 first quarter earnings call this week, social network Facebook released the most recent statistics pertaining to videos viewed on the site. The company disclosed that its videos have approximately 4 billion views per day.
