Getty oil grandson, 47, found dead

Friend discovers millionaire heir half-naked, in bathroom

Andrew Getty, the 47-year-old grandson of oil baron J. Paul Getty and an heir to the family fortune, was found dead in the bathroom of his Hollywood Hills estate, apparently from some sort of blunt-force trauma.

Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith said Getty was naked from the waist down, but "this does not appear immediately to be a criminal act," the Los Angeles Times reported.

Ed Winter, assistant chief in the Los Angeles County coroner's office, told CNN affiliate KTLA his death "appears to be natural [causes] or an accident."

Investigators also found prescription medications in the home and learned during questioning Getty had been feeling poorly for months.

Ann and Gordon Getty confirmed their son's death but asked for privacy during an "extremely difficult time," the newspaper said.

A woman who said she was Getty's friend found him in the bathroom and called emergency responders, police said.
