Call it the smack heard around the world. An angry mother now being hailed by media as “Mom of the Year” was caught on live television grabbing a protesting youth in the streets of Baltimore, hitting him hard across the head, and loudly chastising him for participating in the violence.
“You want to be out here doing this?” the woman is caught on tape yelling, as she smacks the hoodie-wearing youth in the head and on the upper torso.
Many in the media say the male pictured in the video is her son, though that’s not confirmed.
“Get the [expletive] over here,” the woman says, the video shows. “Get over here now.”
The male, who seems to be in his teen years, tries to walk away from the woman, the video shows. But she follows, grabs hold of his hoodie, and continues to berate him – all in front of a crowd of other protesters.
Social media posters were quick to pounce on the out-of-place exchange, with one posting a still shot of the incident with this text: “That awkward moment your mom catches you rioting,” the Blaze reported.
Dr. Phil McGraw, in an appearance on ‘Fox & Friends,” said while he would never condone physical violence, he was nonetheless “tipping his hat to that woman.”
“He will not forget that his mother came out and dragged him home.”
Baltimore, under siege by protesters over the death of Freddie Gray, a black man who died from injuries he sustained while in police custody, was slightly calmed on Tuesday, due in large part to the massive National Guard and police presence.
