After the recent revelations about "19 Kids and Counting" star Josh Duggar and his past transgressions as a child, non-Christians across America are pointing their fingers and saying, "See! I told you the Duggars aren't perfect!"
Of course they aren't! No Christian is perfect. That is precisely why people become Christians!
If the Duggars were perfect, or believed they were perfect, they would not need a savior, and, therefore, would not be Christians.

The left has set up a straw man. It has created this fictitious American Christian who claims to be perfect and hates everyone who is not perfect and not Christian. Yet no Christian has ever said they are perfect, and no leftist can actually produce a real-life Christian who calls himself or herself perfect.
There is a convenience in being non-Christian. They get to point out the stumbles of every Christian without having to live according to a moral code. As long as you don't call yourself a Christian, you can engage in any immoral behavior seemingly without consequence.

But the real freedom is when, as Christians, we accept we are sinners and we fully understand why God sent Jesus to be sacrificed. The pressure of trying to be perfect is lifted and grace is fully understood. That is the real freedom.
Non-Christians aren't the only ones expecting perfection from the Duggars. It is disappointing to see some Christians criticizing the Duggars. They feel as though the Duggars let them down by having sin in their lives. Some say they never should have stepped up to be the Christian role models they have become.

What perfect individual or perfect family would they rather have in place of the Duggars? These critical Christians acknowledge their own sinful nature, but expect other Christians, like the Duggars, to be sinless.
Those Christians critical of the Duggars are handing ammo to the secular left.
The controversy surrounding Josh Duggar and family has presented Christians with a great opportunity. God is so good at turning things to good which were meant for evil.
I hope Josh and the rest of the Duggar family take their show on the road to highlight the grace and forgiveness of Christ. Let them turn this tough situation into a teachable moment for all of America that will show everyone what Christianity is all about. It is about forgiveness and grace, not perfection.

Gov. Mike Huckabee posted the best defense of the Duggars on his Facebook page. We should direct everyone who is critical of the Duggars to read his Facebook post. It reads:
"Janet and I want to affirm our support for the Duggar family. Josh's actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, 'inexcusable,' but that doesn't mean 'unforgivable.' He and his family dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities. No purpose whatsoever is served by those who are now trying to discredit Josh or his family by sensationalizing the story. Good people make mistakes and do regrettable and even disgusting things. The reason that the law protects disclosure of many actions on the part of a minor is that the society has traditionally understood something that today's blood-thirsty media does not understand – that being a minor means that one's judgement is not mature. No one needs to defend Josh's actions as a teenager, but the fact that he confessed his sins to those he harmed, sought help, and has gone forward to live a responsible and circumspect life as an adult is testament to his family's authenticity and humility. Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims. Janet and I love Jim Bob and Michelle and their entire family. They are no more perfect a family than any family, but their Christian witness is not marred in our eyes because following Christ is not a declaration of our perfection, but of HIS perfection. It is precisely because we are all sinners that we need His grace and His forgiveness. We have been blessed to receive God's love and we would do no less than to extend our love and support for our friends. In fact, it is such times as this, when real friends show up and stand up. Today, Janet and I want to show up and stand up for our friends. Let others run from them. We will run to them with our support."
After reading that post, my opinion of Gov. Huckabee was raised tenfold. He just gained one more supporter in me, and, of course, the Duggars have my support, too.
Let's stand with the Duggars and show the world what Christianity is all about.
