Geese in subdivision face firing squad

(GREENVILLE ONLINE) Protesters have helped save geese that were set to be culled from a Greenville subdivision — for at least 30 days.

The geese that have taken up residence along the lake in the Shannon Lake community off Garlington Road have been a nuisance for some in the community. So much so that the Shannon Lake board of directors voted for and successfully obtained a 30-day permit from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to have the geese shot.

On April 17, Shannon Lake residents were notified that a licensed shooter would begin eliminating the geese as early as the next day. In the letter, board president Gordon Thruston assured residents that no ducks would be shot and that the shootings would be done in as safe a manner as possible.
