(THE HILL) Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called on Democrats Tuesday to vote to begin debate on fast-track trade authority, promising them the opportunity to amend it later in the week.
But McConnell refused to bend to Democratic demands that fast-track be joined with a customs and enforcement bill that would crack down on currency manipulation and a package of trade preferences for sub-Saharan Africa.
Instead, fast-track will be paired with Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), a bill favored by many Democrats.
