(KYTX) — HAWKINS, Texas — The small town of Hawkins has been anything but quiet in the recent months. Christian groups from all across East Texas sang and danced by the 'Jesus welcomes you to Hawkins' sign during a revival Sunday night to show their support for it.
"The times have changed," said Rhonda Lane, who believes the sign should stay. "It's no longer a time to just sit around and be quiet and think everything's going to be alright. You must get involved and take a stand."
In a letter sent last June to the Hawkins City Council, the Freedom From Religion Foundation demanded the sign be taken down. The organization said the sign is "inappropriate and unconstitutional" since it stands on public property. But supporters of the sign say they have a right to share their beliefs as well.

"We decided that we had to stand up for the civil liberties of Christians in America to say we have as much freedom of speech as anyone else," said Justin Lane, one of the organizers of the revival.
