A Baytown, Texas, would-be burglar got the shock of his life when he tried taking off with a stash of electronics from the Church of New Beginnings, but was stymied by the pastor – who was packing a pistol.
Lee Marvin Blue, 27, was arrested and charged with breaking down the door of the church with intent to steal. Pastor Benny Holmes was asleep inside, but heard the ruckus and grabbed his 9mm pistol, KHOU reported.

The news site reported Holmes allegedly saw Blue carting out a box of electronics and told him to put it down. Blue allegedly made a movement toward the pastor that seemed aggressive in nature, and Holmes shot him once in the shoulder. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"We're going to be praying for the victim but at the same time we're thankful that it wasn't the pastor," said Holmes ex-wife Pat, in KHOU. "He loves the Lord, a man of God, cares for his sheep, and certainly protects the property."
Police said the pastor isn't likely to face charges. Fox News reported Holmes was a Vietnam veteran.
