(CNN) — In what sounds like a movie plot, a 16-year-old girl survived a Washington state plane crash that is feared to have killed her grandparents and hiked solo out of the rugged mountains to find help.
Autumn Veatch was flying with her grandparents, Leland and Sharon Bowman, on Saturday in a small, private plane when it apparently ran into trouble. The aircraft left Kalispell, Montana, but never arrived where it was headed -- Lynden, Washington.
Two days later, the teenager managed to make her way out of the wilderness to reach a highway and flag down a passing motorist for help.
