Larry Kudlow, a conservative talk show host and long-time economist, vowed to run against Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal in next year’s campaign season if the Democrat dared to support the Iran nuclear deal pushed by President Obama.
“I’m going to run against him,” he said on his recent radio show. “I’m going to run against him for Senate.”
Blumenthal is a 70-year-old first-term senator who previously stood fast on sanctions on Iran. But Obama’s been pressing him to reconsider and join him in supporting the nuke deal.
Congress is scheduled to vote on the deal after members return from recess. But Kudlow is already putting Blumenthal, who’s one of a dozen or so other Democrats in the Senate who haven’t yet made up their minds about the deal, on notice.

“If Sen. Richard Blumenthal votes with Obama on Iran, I’m going to run against him,” Kudlow said, the Hill reported. “I’m not a political guy. I’m an economist, I’m a broadcaster by profession. But I’m so angry at this issue, among others. We’re talking about world security, national security. They’re coming to get us and Iran will finance them. I may lose. It’s a long-shot. I’m not a politician. [But] I’ll take on Blumenthal if I have to.”
And Kudlow’s not kidding. He said the National Republican Senatorial Commission has polled about him, and he also said others angry about the Iran deal ought to take the same steps he’s considering.
“Folks best stand up everywhere and run,” he said. “I’m telling you, citizens’ movement, run against people who support this terrible Iranian deal.”
Supporters on Twitter were quick to respond to Kudlow.
