Presidential contender Sen. Ted Cruz, the tea-party favorite from Texas, issued a written promise via a USA Today op-ed that he’d lead the charge against Planned Parenthood this fall, no matter the objections from his Senate leadership.
WND has reported extensively on the Planned Parenthood scandal, including details about its funding, its founder, Margaret Sanger, and its methods of ending babies’ lives. Cruz has now stepped into the limelight to say: the brutality and taxpayer funding need to stop.
“I intend to lead the fight,” he said, turning his attention directly at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and giving him notice not to “schedule or facilitate” any legislation to give funding to Planned Parenthood.
“Instead,” Cruz wrote, “the Department of Justice needs to investigate and prosecute Planned Parenthood for any potential criminal actions or commercial trafficking of fetal organs.”
He decried the videos Americans have seen in recent weeks “that are nothing short of horrifying,” he wrote.
“An organization that generates a large part of its revenue from terminating innocent human life should not receive one penny of taxpayer money and those who engage in what may be criminal activity must be held to account,” he wrote. “For far too long, Planned Parenthood has hidden behind the well-crafted charade that it exists to protect women’s health. In reality, it is in the business of killing unborn children on an industrial scale.”
He finished: “Funding the federal government does not require funding Planned Parenthood. But basic decency and our commitment to the right to life does require that we stop taxpayer funding of abortions and any trade in baby parts.”
