‘In the end it leads to death’

By Craige McMillan

Liberalism and its more headstrong and violent “progressive offspring” have been called a variety of things in an attempt to explain behavior that somehow seems incapable of self-correcting. As the fruits of liberalism come home to the media with the on-air murders of a cameraman and newscaster by one of progressivism’s poster children – and one of their own members – one wonders if there is any soul-searching stirring inside.

My guess is no, and for several reasons:

1. Society as a whole is still paying the price, both in blood and treasure, to isolate those who adopt progressivism as their mindset. That’s why the government is so important to the left.

2. In the era of social media, more and more people get their “news” from those more and more like themselves. Conflicting views that make the hearer “uncomfortable” and force him or her to think are quickly filtered out.

The effects of this are that the real issues facing society that must be solved are never discussed. As long as the great mass of Americans continue to pay the price for liberals and progressives moving “forward” and pushing the rest of us into their peculiar brand of utopian hell, they have no need of change. Failures are never their fault!

  • Don’t have a good job? That’s the fault of the educational system, despite the obscene cost to taxpayers. It’s not because you didn’t attend class and avail yourself of the opportunities the taxpayers provided.
  • Can’t keep a good job? If you’re black, it’s racism. If you’re female, it’s sexism. If you’re a white male, you’re obviously incompetent.
  • Have you or a friend or family member suffered gun violence? Guns will do that; they just jump up out of nowhere, pull their own trigger and shoot people. Guns are never attached to the hand of a perpetrator who made a willful decision to kill. The only people the left would see prosecuted are those who use guns to defend their own lives.

That’s part of the reason I don’t believe the on-air murders of these two journalists will cause any real soul-searching among the left. Why? I mentioned “self-correcting” behavior earlier. Human beings normally reassess and adjust their behavior when it causes them pain or fails to advance them toward their personal goals.

In the physical world, if your body hurts bad enough you will go and see a doctor, even if you don’t like doctors. In the mental world, when your pain becomes bad enough – and when alcohol and drugs can’t dull that pain sufficiently – you will seek help to change your behavior, or failing that, end your life.

Solomon noted this twice in the book of Proverbs (14:12 and 16:25 NIV): “There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” For liberals and progressives, society has paid the price to isolate them from the effects of their false beliefs since the “golden” days of FDR. They go on their merry way, even more certain that the promised utopian rainbow is just over the next garbage heap – or mass grave.

As long as society pays the price, liberals and progressives will push their agenda. After all, it sounds so righteous and glorious in the political and media echo chambers inside the beltway, where leftists hold the high moral ground – because no one can discuss their failures.

“Armageddon Story” – It’s what happens when human behavior no longer self-corrects.
