Now that Barack Obama and John Kerry have ensured Iran can continue its quest for a nuclear arsenal – and have even helped finance it – you might want to hear about Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's new book.
It's called "Palestine."
Now, before I talk about the contents of this book, I want you to think about how bizarre the title of the book is. "Palestine" is the name the Romans gave to Israel in the second century after overseeing the destruction of the Second Temple, slaughtering the Jews of Jerusalem and scattering most of the Jewish population throughout the world. Palestine has never been the name of any country in the history of the world. It was just the chosen name of a brutal Roman conquest of the Jews. It means nothing in Arabic or Farsi. Instead, it was selected with the idea of making the world forget Israel ever existed.

That's a little historical background.
The ayatollah's screed runs 416 pages. The back cover of the book describes Khamenei as "the flagbearer of Jihad to liberate Jerusalem."

What does Khamenei have to say about Israel?
He says it has no right to exist as a state. He talks about "annihilation" of the Jews.

It's not that he hates Jews, he writes. It's because of "well-established Islamic principles." One of those is that when a land falls under Muslim rule, even briefly, it can never again be ceded to non-Muslims. That means Spain and much of Europe, a third of China, all of India and so on. Few Americans comprehend just how large the Islamic empire actually was – larger in land mass and domination of population than any other empire in history. It also lasted longer than any previous empire. We shouldn't be so forgetful, given that the empire ended in World War I – in the 20th century!
But don't get Khamenei wrong. Israel is not just another land that was formerly under the domination of Islam. It's a special case, he says.
Do you know why?
- Because it is an "ally of the American Great Satan" and a key element in its "evil scheme" to dominate "the heartland of the Ummah."
- Because Israel has waged war on Muslims and has become "a hostile infidel," or "kaffir al-harbi."
- Because Israel occupies its own eternal capital – Jerusalem, which Khamenei describes as "Islam's third Holy City."
How will Khamenei orchestrate the demise of Israel? What he suggests is just what Iran and some other Muslim powers have been doing since the end of the 1973 Yom Kippur War – supporting low-intensity, asymmetrical warfare designed to make life so unbearable for Jews that they leave the one and only Jewish state.

What about Iran's nuclear arsenal?
Khamenei doesn't think it will be necessary to nuke Israel. But he does see the acquisition of nuclear arms as key to his strategy. If and when Iran has nukes, Israel's population will live under a constant cloud of annihilation.
"Khamenei counts on what he sees as 'Israel fatigue,'" writes Amir Taheri, who has reviewed Khamenei's book in an Arab-language translation.

There is no "two-state solution," in Khamenei's view. The one state would be called Palestine under Muslim rule and would even be so gracious as to permit some non-Muslims to continue living there as "protected minorities," or dhimmi – kind of like living museums.
Khamenei describes Israel as "a cancerous tumor" whose elimination would mean that "the West's hegemony and threats will be discredited" in the Middle East, according to Taheri. In its place, he boasts, "the hegemony of Iran will be promoted."
Khamenei's book is also loaded with Holocaust revisionism. He calls it "a propaganda ploy" or a disputed claim.
"If there was such a thing," he writes, "we don't know why it happened and how."
This is the kind of "thinking" that has been empowered by Barack Obama and John Kerry.
