(DAILY NEWS) The Catholic Church may not be changing its stance on same-sex marriage anytime soon, but at least the Vatican is on the side of some fictional gay penguins and bunnies.
The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, stirred up controversy this summer when he started banning books featuring same-sex couples from the city’s public schools.
The mayor has removed about 50 books from school shelves since taking office in June, prompting advocates and celebrities — including gay musician Elton John, who has a home in Venice with his family — to slam the politician as bigoted.
