The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., has affirmed that an honor to Margaret Sanger, the known eugenicist and Planned Parenthood founder who once warned that people should not be allowed to know that her goal was to reduce the number of blacks, will remain in place.
“Ironically, Sanger’s bust is featured in the NPG’s ‘Struggle for Justice’ exhibit, alongside two of America’s most celebrated and authentic champions of equal rights – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks,” the pastors wrote. “If Sanger had her way, MLK and Rosa Parks would not have been born.”
Neither would Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, a radio talk-show host, speaker and WND columnist. Peterson said he agrees with the black pastors’ demand to remove the Sanger bust.
“They should remove it because Margaret Sanger is presented as a civil-rights person, someone who was for the people and for freedom, and that wasn’t the case at all,” Peterson told WND. “Margaret Sanger believed in eugenics, and she believed that black people were an underclass, they were having too many babies in the South and that they needed to be wiped out.”
CNS News said it had obtained a statement from the Smithsonian that no changes were planned.
“Margaret Sanger is included in the museum’s collection, not in tribute to all her beliefs, many of which are now controversial, but because of her leading role in early efforts to distribute information about birth control and medical information to disadvantaged women, as well as her later roles associated with developing modern methods of contraception and in founding Planned Parenthood of America,” the statement said.
“Nonetheless, Sanger’s alliance with aspects of the eugenics movement raises questions about her motivations and intentions. The museum’s intent is not to honor her in an unqualified way, but rather to stimulate our audiences to reflect on the experience of Americans who struggled to improve the civil and social conditions of 20th-century America,” it added.
WND had reported, though it might be uncomfortable for advocates of Planned Parenthood to acknowledge, it’s true – Sanger was a eugenicist who once spoke to the Ku Klux Klan.
The evidence is right there in her own memoir, according to Paul Kengor.
“These are the kind of great lengths to which liberals go to ignore the writings of their own icons,” said Kengor, a professor and author of “Takedown: From Communists to Progressives, How the Left Has Sabotaged Family and Marriage.” “Pages 366 and 367 of her memoirs, published by a top New York publishing house, she talks about her 1926 speech to the Silver Lake, New Jersey, women’s chapter of the KKK. That’s right – Margaret Sanger spoke to the KKK.”
In an interview with WND, Kengor recounted Sanger’s KKK experience as documented in her memoir.
“She describes the white hoods that come through, the flaming crosses that come through,” Kengor recalled. “Then she gets up and speaks, and she spoke for so long and was such a hit that she didn’t get finished until late at night. She also said a whole bunch of additional offers to speak were proffered by her enthusiastic audience, and she finished so late that she missed the train to go back to New York. She had to spend the night there.
“And people might wonder, why would the KKK invite Margaret Sanger? Because Margaret Sanger was a racial eugenicist. She spoke openly of race improvement.”
Peterson, author of the soon-to-be-released book “Antidote,” charged Sanger’s desire to control the black population led her to found the American Birth Control League, which later evolved into Planned Parenthood.
“She was a hard-core racist who hated black Americans, and unfortunately 70 percent of the Planned Parenthood abortion mills are in inner cities right now,” Peterson noted. “[Sanger] was not about freedom for all people, and she wasn’t a leader in the civil rights movement or an example for the civil rights movement.”
Troy Newman, president of Operation Rescue and a leading anti-abortion activist, also supports the removal of Sanger’s likeness from the National Portrait Gallery.
“Her legacy has been one of disgusting racism and eugenics,” said Newman, author of “Abortion Free: Your Manual for Building a Pro-Life America One Community at a Time.” “Most Americans do not understand that she was more closely associated with the ideology of the Nazis than a modern-day perspective of social justice. Reading through her writings and lectures one would easily find that she would be considered a despicable racist in today society.”
Kengor certainly agrees, pointing out Sanger once used the phrase “Birth Control: To Create a Race of Thoroughbreds” as a masthead in an issue of her publication Birth Control Review. The professor also echoed Peterson’s point that Planned Parenthood targets minority babies.
“Today her Planned Parenthood clinics abort a disproportionate number of unborn African-American babies,” Kengor said. “And that’s a hard fact for liberals to accept, and they refuse to accept, and they’re right now yelling at their screen calling me names, but it’s true. It’s absolutely true. And it’s horrible, it’s disgusting, and it’s downright evil.”
“Evil” was the word Peterson also used to describe the Smithsonian Institution’s decision to honor the racist Sanger alongside the likes of King and Parks, who fought for African-American rights. He also called it a “slap in the face” to all those who suffered and died for the freedom of black Americans.
Peterson said, “I grew up in Alabama on a plantation down there under Jim Crow laws, and to see [Sanger] standing there alongside people like that as though she was part of the civil rights movement is really – it’s evil. It’s pretty evil.”
Sanger is in the news now because of a series of videos being released by the Center for Medical Progress about Planned Parenthood.
The group sent undercover reporters to Planned Parenthood and other abortion industry locations to ask questions about the trafficking of the body parts of unborn children, and discovered a callous attitude – one Planned Parenthood executive said, during negotiations where she said she didn’t want to be “low-balled,” “I want a Lamborghini.”

An old story
WND also has reported that as horrific as the videos appear, they should surprise no one, since such practices have been documented for nearly two decades already.
A price list uncovered by a pro-life organization dated June 1998 shows that the price per specimen from a second trimester abortion is $90 fresh and $130 frozen.
Mark Crutcher, whose Life Dynamics organization was a ground-breaker in investigating the abortion behemoth that gets some $500 million annually from U.S. taxpayers, worked on that investigation.
His group reported back in February 2000 how the baby parts market works: “A baby parts ‘wholesaler’ enters into a financial agreement with an abortion clinic in which the wholesaler pays a monthly ‘site fee’ to the clinic. For this payment, the wholesaler is allowed to place a retrieval agent inside the clinic where he or she is given access to the corpses of children killed there and a workspace to harvest their parts.”
He continued: “The buyer – usually a researcher working for a medical school, pharmaceutical company, bio-tech company or government agency – supplies the wholesaler with a list of the baby parts wanted. … when such orders are received … they are faxed to the retrieval agent at the clinic who harvests the requested parts and ships them to the buyer.”
The documentation was provided at that time to Life Dynamics by a worker who left Comprehensive Health for Women, a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Overland Park, Kansas.

Among the documents was a “Fee-for-Services” Schedule A, effective June 1998, which outlined a charge of $220 per specimen for first-trimester aspiration abortions and $260 if the baby parts were frozen.
Crutcher’s report, citing Planned Parenthood’s own paperwork, found that one agent sold during February 1996 alone 47 livers, 11 liver fragments, seven brains, 21 eyes, eight thymuses, 23 legs, 14 pancreases, 14 lungs, six arms and one kidney-adrenal gland.
He also sold three orders of blood from the unborn child. The retrieval agent “harvested all of the parts,” the report said, explaining that “in order for the blood of an aborted child to be sold, the dead baby had to be brought to him intact.”
The “specimens,” the report said, would have generated up to about $25,000 in revenue for one month from one retrieval agent at one Planned Parenthood business.
Crutcher reported that the tissue logs reveal that one baby is often chopped up and sold to many buyers.
For example, babies taken from donors 113968 and 114189 were both killed late in their second trimester and cut into nine pieces. By applying the price list, buyers would have been invoiced between $3,510 and $5,070 for these parts, he said.
