Like it or not, the reality is America is no longer U-S-A. We are T-M-Z. We are a nation that idolizes celebrity. We’re one big reality show. That’s how Obama got elected – twice. It sure wasn’t based on accomplishments, policies, or results. Obama wasn’t elected president; he was elected “American Idol.”
The only presidential candidate who understands that today is Donald Trump. And he’s well on his way to becoming president of this TMZ country.
Or did you think Trump wakes up at 3 a.m. to attack Megyn Kelly and poke the 10-ton guerilla in the room (Fox News Channel) by mistake? Do you really believe Trump is stupid, or irrational? Because if you do, you’re the stupid one. In poker there’s a saying, “Look around the poker table. If you can’t find the sucker, it’s you!”
I can tell you this much – it isn’t Donald Trump.
The never-ending fighting with Fox News and Megyn Kelly is brilliant. It’s all part of a plan. Pick a fight with a media elephant, create controversy, create headlines, get people talking and tweeting. Pick a fight with Univision. Pick a fight with Rosie O’Donnell. Pick a fight with John McCain. It’s all brilliant. The billionaire business mogul makes headlines by picking fights with celebrities and American icons, thereby making himself more famous every day. Trump and his fights are all we talk about.
Trump is merely carrying on the great tradition of other brilliant billionaires, visionaries and marketing geniuses like George Steinbrenner of the New York Yankees, Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys, Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders, Mark Cuban of the Dallas Mavericks, and don’t forget Muhammad Ali (picking fights with Joe Frazier).
Trump gets it. The other candidates don’t. “The squeaky wheel gets the oil.” Donald has sucked all the oil and oxygen out of the race. We’re not just TMZ nation anymore, we’re officially Trump Nation. It’s Trump Channel all day, 24 hours a day, on every channel on the dial. Or haven’t you seen Trump’s last two rallies carried live in their entirety on CNN?
Some dummy, huh? Don’t we all wish we could be as dumb as Donald?
Trump’s fight with Kelly and Fox News is ratings GOLD. It’s like a modern-day Hatfields and McCoys. Its Ali-Frazier. It’s like the New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner fighting and firing manager Billy Martin: “You’re fired!” “No. I quit.” “You’re hired.” “Again?” He fired him multiple times in one season!
But they all got rich and famous. Steinbrenner got rich and famous. Billy Martin got rich and famous. The New York Post sold papers. The National Inquirer sold papers. Stadiums were filled, and all the other owners got rich. TV ratings went through the roof. The players’ salaries went through the roof. Everyone won. Love or hate the names George Steinbrenner or Billy Martin, everyone knew them. Everyone was talking about them.
Steinbrenner bought the Yankees from CBS for $8.7 million. When Steinbrenner died the team was worth over $3 billion. That’s the genius of celebrity branding.
So much for the genius of the media. CBS sold out for $8.7 million. That deal was almost as bad as the Indians selling Manhattan for a few beads. How do we score that battle?Businessman: genius. Media: dumb as a box of rocks.
Trump (like Steinbrenner) understands that controversy sells. Outrageous sells. People love a good soap opera. It takes their minds off the tragic Obama economy. It would be a dull summer without Trump and Megyn Kelly. Instead we are all entertained. It’s time to watch Trump berate Megyn again. Pass the popcorn!
And the other candidates who think it pays to be nice to Fox News … who are they? I never heard of them. Jeb Bush? Who’s that? Donald Trump is like David Copperfield. He makes his competition disappear.
He’s a multi-billionaire for a reason. Donald Trump understands the intersection of business, politics, celebrity and social media. He’s turned politics into a real-life reality show. He’s turned politics into a three-ring-circus. He’s Barnum & Bailey. He’s PT Barnum. He’s Ronald Reagan, Obama, Tiger Woods and Kim Kardashian rolled into one.
And love him or hate him, you’re dying to see the show! Everyone wants in. Everyone is listening. Everyone is watching. Everyone is talking about it. I’m betting Donald Trump is one of the top costumes for Halloween 2015 and 2016.
Jorge Ramos and Rosie O’Donnell may consider Trump a bully, but he’s not a bully – he’s just RELENTLESS.
And that’s what it takes to be a winner. The secret is all laid out for you in my new bestselling book, “The Power of RELENTLESS.”
“The Power of RELENTLESS” is about the principles and attributes that lead to success – Relentless Energy … Relentless Chutzpah (audacity) … Relentless Aggressive Attack (always set the agenda, always play offense) … Relentless Media Headlines … and Relentless Celebrity Branding.
Here’s how Trump described my book: “You’re in the right place with ‘The Power of Relentless.’ Opportunity is knocking, and Wayne Root will show you how to seize it. He knows how to be tenacious and relentless – and how to win!”
Donald Trump understands what it takes to win. You can, too, by following my principles of “RELENTLESS.” Now pass the popcorn and start practicing the words “President Donald Trump.”
