(NOLA) — With no discussion, the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education decided in committee Tuesday (Aug. 11) to revoke the teaching certificate of former Destrehan High School teacher Shelley Dufresne, who has admitted having sex with a 16-year-old student. The full board is expected to endorse the decision Wednesday.
Dufresne, who taught English, voluntarily gave up her teaching certificate and pleaded guilty to felony obscenity April 9 in a deal that let her avoid prison time. The state had suspended her Level 2 license July 1 and notified her the next day that revocation hearings would be held in August, according to the board’s agenda.

“Ms. Dufresne will never be eligible to hold a teaching certificate in the future and has been ordered not to be employed at any job that has authority over individuals under the age of 18,” Education Department staffer Nikki Landry wrote in a supporting note to the board.
