(MLIVE) — WARREN, Michigan -- The governor has designated this week Welcoming Week in Michigan, an annual celebration of immigration, with a Wednesday convention planned in Macomb County.
The Wednesday gathering will run all day at Macomb County Community college, with discussions on immigrants' rights, bilingual education, government ID card programs and other resources.
"Michigan is a state with a rich heritage of immigrants and their families contributing to make our state special," Gov. Rick Snyder said in a statement. "It's important for us to continue working to welcome people who come to our state, leveraging their full potential."
