A South Dakota high school went on lockdown Wednesday after a teenager shot and wounded its principal.
Principal Kevin Lein of Harrisburg High School was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm and a 16-year-old was taken into custody after the shooting, KELO-TV reported.
The school is located approximately 10 miles outside Sioux Falls.
A bomb squad arrived with two ambulances after the shooting was reported. All students, roughly 130, were eventually transferred by bus to a nearby middle school.
"I was just sitting at home and we heard some ambulances and some sirens coming in. My brother was just coming home from work. We live right across the street from the high school here. He came home from work and said, 'Yeah, these two cop cars just went flying past me,'" said Jacob Pohlmann, the school's assistant track coach.
Lincoln County deputy state's attorney Michael F. Nadolski told the New York Daily News only one shot was fired before the student was taken into custody.
