(CNN)U.S. officials say there's a notable increase in the number of unaccompanied minors and families crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, presenting worries of a possible new refugee influx.
An increase in the number of such crossings in August is unusual because it is a time of year when the number of undocumented immigrants attempting to cross tends to drop because of the danger from hot temperatures.

The U.S. faced a crisis in 2014 when as many as 10,000 children a month, and another 16,000 adults with children, began arriving at the southwestern border.
