(MASS LIVE) Pope Francis's papacy has become famous for its focus on inclusion, and the White House guest list to meet Francis on his first U.S. visit is apparently prompting Vatican unease just for that reason.
The pope has been invited to the White House for a welcome ceremony and meeting with the president and first lady on the morning of Sept. 23. Who will be in attendance at the meeting has begun to be leaked to the media.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the Vatican doesn't want Francis to appear in photographs with guests whose activism related to sexuality, gay marriage or other issues defies Church teaching. The reported concern is that a photo with the pope might appear to give approval.
