Several universities in the Philadelphia area are on high alert after authorities received a threat of violence from an unknown online source that's supposed to go forth Monday afternoon.
The Daily Pennsylvanian reported in a Twitter message: "BREAKING FBI and ATF warns Penn and others that a threat of violence targeting a school in the Philly area was made for Oct 5 at 2 p.m."

Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on scene, investigating.

Meanwhile, many students at local colleges, including Temple University, the University of Pennsylvania and Villanova University, have opted to stay home, at the advice of investigators, Fox News reported. Time reported Drexel University has been put on notice, too.
Temple University spokesman Brandon Lausch said officials received notification of the threat in a letter from the FBI and ATF.

"While law enforcement is not aware of any specific threat, Temple police are closely monitoring the situation and keeping in contact with local and federal officials," the internal letter stated, Time reported.
