Three people were killed and five policemen injured before a shooter at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was taken into custody on Friday.
He has been identified by police as Robert Lewis Dear, 59, reportedly from North Carolina. The suspected gunman had lived in a cabin in the North Carolina woods with no electricity or running water. Neighbors said he kept to himself and did not openly discuss religion or abortion, but had a rambling manner when he spoke. "If you talked to him, nothing with him was very cognitive – topics all over place," said Black Mountain resident James Russell.

Dear was listed as "unaffiliated" on a 2014 Colorado registration. Police are looking for clues to what motivated the attack.
Police Lt. Catherine Buckley told reporters that Colorado Springs police, El Paso County Sheriff's Office and Colorado State Patrol "brought all of our resources to bear" against the shooter. The suspect, a six-foot tall white man wearing a trench coat and a hunting cap, used a "high-powered rifle" to fire at cops.

The FBI and the ATF were also on the scene.
"The perpetrator is in custody. The situation has been resolved. There's no continuing peril to the citizens of Colorado Springs," Mayor John Suthers told reporters Friday, CNN reported. "But there's a huge crime scene that has to be processed. We have to determine exactly how many victims there are. We'll be reporting on that in the near future."
