A website called Faith Driven Consumer that lists which companies are best in terms of espousing Christian values has given top billing to Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby, two businesses that have made media waves in recent months because of attacks on their executives' faith.
Hobby Lobby was at the heart of one of the Supreme Court's recent cases over the right of companies to withhold certain types of birth control from employees' health insurance coverage due to religious beliefs – specifically, pills that induce abortion. And Chick-Fil-A was targeted by "gays" for boycott and protests after Dan Cathy, its president, cited biblical views about homosexuality that some perceived as discriminatory.

Now both businesses are getting back-pats for the very Christian values that caused previous firestorms. The two filled first and second spots on the Faith Equality Index, the just-released survey to see what companies are most Christian.
"The Faith Equality Index affords the marketplace a transparent tool to measure where brands stand," said Chris Stone, a brand strategist and the founder of Faith Driven Consumer, in a posted statement. "We recognize that many brands still have a long way to go in welcoming, embracing and celebrating Faith Driven Consumers ... and are diligently working with all brands as they seek to understand and embrace this key constituency."

The survey from Faith Driven Consumer, an organization that says it represents "41 million Christian consumers who spend $2 trillion annually," scored over 300 companies.

And among their findings: Top-rated companies, in order, were Chick-Fil-A, Hobby Lobby, Insterstate Batteries, Tyson Foods, Cracker Barrel, Walmart and Thrivent Financial.
The index is a tool for consumers who seek to support businesses that tout faith-based principles similar to their own. Or, in the words of the Faith Driven Consumer website, "FDCs are driven by their biblically based worldview in daily purchasing decisions, including consumer and entertainment choices."
