The clock on the "Countdown" game show
A former TV game-show champion in the United Kingdom has tracked down an 18-year-old book critic through social media and traveled 500 miles to clobber her with a wine bottle, according to a report from the Telegraph.
The court case against Richard Brittain, a former Countdown game-show winner from 2006, now is in the courts, where the report said Sheriff Martin Jones, queen's counsel, deferred a sentence pending reports after Brittain pleaded guilty to assault in Glasgow Sheriff Court.

But during a recent court hearing, testimony revealed how Brittain apparently smashed a bottle of wine over Paige Rolland's head as she worked at an Asda supermarket in Scotland.
He had traveled 500 miles to carry out the attack on Oct.3, 2014, testimony said.

After reading Rolland's negative comments, he "decided to track Paige down to her workplace," the Telegraph reported.
She described being hit.
"At first, I thought that maybe I'd hit my head off the shelf and, as everything started to spin and go black, I wondered how I could be so stupid as to hit my head so hard."
She remembers lowering herself to the floor. Then, "I heard the tinkle of a bottle on the floor and I thought that something had fallen on me. Blood was covering my hands and dripping down my arms."
She said her coworkers came to her rescue, putting towels on her head, which was left with a huge gash, and a coat to keep her warm.

"I find it weird and creepy he tracked me down and traveled to Scotland to assault me," she said in the Telegraph report. "But then his book as about a woman he was stalking for years. The fact that he assaulted me and didn't say a word is horrifying."
