(USA Today) At least eight people were killed in North Texas after severe storms and tornadoes slammed the area Saturday, according to police.
Several buildings, including two local churches, were destroyed in a tornado in the Ellis County area just before 6 p.m. CT, as other parts of the state braced for what some forecasters are calling a "historic" blizzard.
"We have destroyed and damaged homes," tweeted Stephanie Parker, Ellis County emergency manager. "Please do not get out on the roads if you do not have to."
