
Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics says 1 out of every 7 boys born into a Muslim family is named Muhammad
Israeli Muslims in 2014 matched their British counterparts and made Muhammad the most popular baby name for boys.
The Central Bureau of Statistics reported 2,650 Muhammads born in Israel in 2014 compared with runner-up Noam, of which there were 1,600.

"[Muhammad] was very common among the population because it is given to one out of every seven Muslim boys. In comparison, the most common names among Jews and Muslim girls were given to one out of 40 children," CBS said, Haaretz reported Monday.

CBS said that statistic for Muslim males raises to 20 percent when coupled with the name Ahmed.
Israel's Population Authority declined to include Arab names on its list last year, when the website Baby Center announced Muhammad took the top slot in Britain.

Other names rounding out Israel's top-ten list of boy names include: Uri, David, Yousef, Eitan, Itay, Ariel, Daniel, Yonatan and Moshe.
The top-ten list of names for Israeli girls included: Noa, Tamar, Shira, Maya, Yael, Adele, Talia, Avigail, Ayala and Sara.
Israel has a population of 8.1 million people. Roughly 20 percent of its citizens come from Arab descent.
