This week, Miss Puerto Rico – a 20-year-old little number named Destiny Velez – got herself into some trouble on Twitter. It seems Ms. Velez dared to say what everybody else is thinking. When notoriously wealthy liberal hypocrite and professional tub of goo Michael Moore proclaimed that "we are all Muslims," Ms. Velez took to the microblogging site Twitter and said, among other things, "Muslims use our Constitution to terrorize USA and plant gas stations."
Just what "planting gas stations" means is not entirely clear, but her sentiments were obvious enough. Americans are tired of Muslim mass murder. They're tired of American Muslims spending much more time whining about the supposed backlash against Muslims than actually denouncing jihad against innocent men, women and children in the United States. They're tired of a filthy murder cult whose tenets are rooted in forcing the infidels to submit and then squealing about religious persecution whenever their terror mosques are scrutinized for fomenting religious pogroms. They're tired of a religion whose brave fundamentalist warriors heave repeatedly conspired to murder children.

Of course, in today's politically correct landscape, you can't say any of that out loud. Twitter and other social media sites like Facebook are the new public square. Social media's influence has seeped into popular culture so pervasively, in fact, that it figures regularly in both local and national news. In Cicero, New York, 400 students – roughly 20 percent of the student body – stayed home from school when rumors concerning threats of a Columbine-like massacre were spread using Facebook and text messages. In Illinois, insults on Facebook allegedly ended in a brutal multiple stabbing, leaving one woman in the hospital. More recently, a teacher in a Virginia school ordered students to write "There is no god but Allah" in Arabic as part of a "standard homework assignment" – and the county shut down its schools in response to subsequent criticism and threats received via social media.
No matter how many people are murdered in the name of Allah, our Democrat-run public schools never tire of pumping our children full of Muslim propaganda. No matter how many mosques promote jihad, American Muslims never tire of telling Americans it is OUR intolerance that is the problem. No matter how many acts of vicious terror and murder are carried out by Muslim operatives, our president never tires of wagging his finger in our faces and lecturing us as to why it is our fault bad things happen. Terrorists murder their Christian coworkers because Americans own guns. Muslims stab and stone children to death because Christians and Jews are intolerant. Islamist gunmen shoot men, women and children abroad because American foreign policy doesn't favor every nation but the United States.

That brings us back to Ms. Velez. She simply said what we're all thinking. We're tired of Muslim terror. We're much more worried, however, about the free speech of Muslims preaching that Jews and Christians are filthy animals deserving of murder, so it's Ms. Velez who's been punished. She was "suspended indefinitely" by the Miss Puerto Rico organization. One wonders if they would have been so swift to suspend her had she been critical of, say, Donald Trump or Ted Cruz. One might cynically suggest that any liberal can make any political statement critical of a conservative in today's public square without fearing official sanction – although getting roasted on Twitter or Facebook is a very real possibility.
Celebrities get themselves into trouble on Twitter all the time, in fact. Jim Carrey famously took heat for attacking American gun owners, although it's arguable whether he had a career left to damage by the time that occurred. Roseanne Barr actually got sued by George Zimmerman's parents when she tweeted their home address (in an obvious bid to encourage harassment or murder of Zimmerman, as liberals area always very comfortable with mob violence). Gilbert Gottfried lost his lucrative gig voicing the AFLAC duck when he made ill-timed and offensive jokes on Twitter. Then there's Alec Baldwin, whose antics on Twitter are legendary and who has deleted his account at least once following controversy over his public arguments. Meanwhile, famous conservative Adam Baldwin (no relation) was locked out of Twitter and forced to delete a tweet comparing feminist activists to gamers (which painted the feminists in an unattractive light).

The news, when it comes to celebrities digging holes for themselves on social media, seems to be of two types. Either a celebrity dares to speak out in support of what is true and is punished for it by the powers that are, or that celebrity says something so vile and vicious that public outcry harms his or her career. It always seems to be the conservatives and libertarians being punished by the management of social media sites, or by their employers; rarely does publicly stating liberal or progressive talking points get one punished by one's bosses. An actor who is a liberal need never worry that his progressive politics will stop him from getting work in Hollywood, but many conservative and libertarian actors must remain "in the closet" concerning their politics less they find their careers stalled.
The double standard extends to those who are not celebrities, of course. Twitter is notorious for banning and deleting conservative accounts merely for arguing with progressives, and it was liberals on Twitter who pioneered the practice of abusing the site's reporting feature to suspend right-wingers' accounts. Facebook has been roundly criticized for harassing and closing conservative pages and accounts while allowing hateful progressive and pages and groups to remain. The message, drummed repeatedly into our heads by the management of social media sites, is obvious: Free speech applies only to progressives. Conservatives and libertarians must never speak their minds lest they be punished for doing so.
There can be only one conclusion, as obvious as it is foregone: Liberals hate free speech. They will use any power and authority they have to condemn and silence their hated enemies, on social media and in real life – and their hated enemies, as is ever the case, are the American people.
