(USA TODAY) The U.S. Coast Guard was searching for survivors Friday after two Marine Corps helicopters carrying 12 people collided off the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
Rescuers spotted a fire and debris field, including an empty life raft. There was no immediate word on what caused the collision of the two heavy-lift transport helicopters.
The search and rescue operations were underway in areas with a high surf advisory. Rescuers were facing 10-foot waves that were expected to rise, Honolulu's KHON-TV reported.
