After Barack Obama's teary speech about the effects of gun attacks – who knew that adults and children get shot and many are killed? – he unloaded his plan to essentially disarm innocent America citizens and make mincemeat of the Second Amendment and the U.S. Constitution.
It was as though he had just discovered the secret answer to eliminating violence on our streets.
Despite accusations that the tears were caused by pepper or onions or other tear-inducing substances, overall, Obama got a free pass for his alleged compassion.
Anyone remember when Democrat Sen. Ed Muskie essentially killed his presidential campaign when he cried after a newspaper criticized his wife? He was dumped as too wimpish!
Times have changed. It appears that crying Democrats get a free pass and their tears are the in-thing.
But the core issue is violence in our country and the fact that the Democrats, and many Republicans too, blame the mere existence of firearms as the reason.
If you listen to them and to the man who is president, if we can just get these guns off the streets and out of the hands of all Americans, then peace will reign and everyone will be safe.
Obama insists he is not advocating firearm confiscation. But regardless of how you define it, he aims to make it nigh onto impossible for any American citizen to legally purchase a firearm, impossible to give one as a gift and, long range, eliminate citizen possession of any of them.
This is the same man who is redefining our whole system of law enforcement. He will not speak out against the nearly 300 sanctuary cities across the country – essentially American cities that refuse to obey immigration laws and protect illegal aliens from deportation – violent criminals and others.
This is the same man who is weakening criminal penalties and who continues to release thousands of hardened criminals from prisons and jails. There are vague promises to deport the illegals, but that hasn't happened and it isn't likely. What has happened is an increase in crimes committed by these released felons which includes, according to ICE, everything from drunken driving to homicide.
Isn't anyone standing up against this man?
Well, yes, there is, and he's someone you need to know about.
He's Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County in Arizona. I met him in my varied research into the dangerous border issues in Arizona. I interviewed him many times, and he was a guest on my talk-radio program.
Not only is Paul Babeu young, smart, experienced and a patriot – he is a man of courage who has served our country in the military and in law enforcement. He's also a conservative Republican who is willing to step down from his job as sheriff to run for Congress!
When he heard the administration claimed that of more than 6,000 parolees, 1,700 illegal alien inmates among them, would be deported, Babeu called it "nonsense."
He told FrontpageMag.com: "There's no chance of them being deported to their country of origin, and this is just another lie."
Obama ignored him and continued the prison release, which Sheriff Babeu called "the largest prison break in U.S. history."
Babeu told Neil Cavuto on Fox that law enforcement is not told in advance of the prisoner release. He says that in Arizona, both Democrat and Republican sheriffs stood together in saying the entire system is broken. He accused the administration of prioritizing the help for prisoners rather than for the families of Americans who are the victims of their crimes.
Babeu confronted Obama during last week's gun town hall on CNN.
He minced no words, asking Obama to identify exactly which shootings his executive actions would have prevented.
Obama had no response to that query – saying that we have to try to do something to get at the reason why people commit such crimes. He said that since we can't identify in advance who will commit such crimes, we have to figure out how to make it less lethal when it does happen.
Apparently, according to Barack Obama – who said he has never owned a gun – the way to do it is to restrict guns for the law abiding.
Huh?
Obama was also confronted by Taya Kyle, widow of the "American Sniper" and by a rape survivor. Both women spoke of their need to provide personal protection for themselves and their families – an argument that got no meaningful response from the man who enjoys 24/7 armed security for himself and his family and who will continue to have it for years to come.
The fallout from Obama's executive orders concerning guns is centered mostly on constitutional issues which, on the face of it, isn't bad, but given the mindset of Congress, it's far-fetched to think there's any courage in either house to stand up for the Constitution, for American citizens and for our freedoms.
We know where Paul Babeu will stand if he gets elected. By that time, Obama will be gone. But, unfortunately, it may be too late to undo the damage he is wreaking on our country.
I pray not.
