(WASHINGTONEXAMINER) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Wednesday that it seized $4.65 million worth of "hell money" from a couple arriving from South Korea last week.
"Hell money" is counterfeit bank notes that are intended to be "presented as burnt offerings to the deceased," according to CBP. The agency said the custom is "often practiced in certain Asian cultures."
CBP said the seizure happened on Feb. 12, and that it was being carried by the couple from South Korea.
