(Omaha World Herald) Millard school board member Paul Meyer issued an apology Wednesday for controversial comments he made at a meeting two days earlier.
In a letter to district staff, he wrote that after reflection he realized his comments "have been hurtful to many people."
"This is not what I intended, and I am sorry," he wrote.

Meyer made the remarks in question during a board discussion of the 2017-18 school calendar. He moved that the board rename its winter vacation "Christmas break." Then he added that atheists who disagreed with the idea could "crawl back into their hellhole."
