NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. – Calling Hillary Clinton a coward and a threat to national security, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton on Thursday unloaded a blistering attack on the Democratic presidential front-runner and savaged her fitness to become commander in chief.

“We need to remember her cowardice at Benghazi,” said Bolton at CPAC, the annual gathering of conservatives just outside Washington, because, “On the the day of the attack she did not talk to the secretary of defense once.”

He noted Clinton “did not have the courage to appear on the Sunday talk shows” after four Americans were killed by Islamic terrorists, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Smith.

Instead, he said, she dispatched “the hapless Susan Rice” to the shows.

“This is cowardice,” thundered Bolton, “not what we need in a commander in chief.”

“Hillary Clinton is a threat to national security,” he charged, citing as proof her “utter disdain” for the security of the classified information entrusted to her that she exposed to theft by espionage when she used a private email server.

“If she doesn’t have the wit to protect her own emails, how can we expect she is going to protect us? wondered Bolton.

He said Clinton’s reaction to the FBI and State Department investigations into her emails has been “a lie from the beginning.”

The Washington Post is reporting a key former Clinton aide will cooperate with the FBI in exchange for immunity, after previously invoking his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refusing to talk to congressional investigators.

After a Clinton spokesman said she welcomed that development, Bolton called it “the kind of spin their lapdogs in the media are too lazy” to understand or care about.

“If I had done one tenth of what she did, I’d be in jail already,” claimed Bolton. “Forget the political spin, Hillary is deep legal trouble and she should be.”

The theme of the rest of his speech was the president’s foreign policy has been a disaster around the world, and that Clinton is essentially the same person as Obama when it comes to this topic.

Bolton said Obama and Clinton had planted the seeds of disaster in every hot spot in the world:

  • Ceding control of the South China Sea, a major transit spot for oil, to communist China.
  • Allowing North Korea to accelerate its nuclear weapon and missile programs, undoubtedly in cooperation with Iran.
  • Negotiating missile deals to Russia’s advantage.
  • Allowing Europe to become engulfed in turmoil, with the breakup of the European Union imminent.
  • Letting the Mideast, Libya and Yemen descend into chaos.
  • Allowing al-Qaida, the Taliban and ISIS to thrive in Pakistan, while letting Syria and Iraq descend into civil war.

Bolton predicted Russian President Vladimir Putin will provoke another crisis before the end of the president’s term just to see what Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry will do.

The former ambassador said Obama’s primary response to a world in crisis has been a misguided attempt to close the prison for terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and to send their commanders back to the battlefield, and that Clinton fully supports him.

To top it all off, Bolton called the Iranian nuclear deal the “worst diplomatic failure in the history of the United States” and warned the audience, “make no mistake,” the Kerry policy is the Clinton policy.

“This is her policy.”
