Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., went on national television to discuss former House Speaker John Boehner’s likening of Sen. Ted Cruz to Satan – and then tacked on to that characterization with a mocking twist that the comparison was actually a ding to Lucifer.
“I fully agree with John Boehner,” King said, during a discussion with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about the former politico’s controversial statement.
Boehner, earlier this week, called Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh” and added that he “never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”
King, on CNN, went even further.
“Maybe it gives Lucifer a bad name by comparing him to Ted Cruz,” he said, the Blaze reported.
King explained his view as stemming from Cruz’s shutdown of the government, an act he described as a selfish maneuver aimed at boosting the Texan’s own name recognition.
The comments came as members of the Satanic Temple, through its spokesman, who goes by the name of Lucien Greaves, also took potshots at Cruz by saying he was hardly like Satan – that such comparisons were offensive to satanists.
“Cruz’s failures of reason, compassion, decency and humanity are products of his Christian pandering, if not an actual Christian faith,” he said, the Friendly Atheist reported. “It grows tedious when pedophile priests and loathsome politicians are conveniently dismissed as Satanic, even as they spew biblical verse and prostrate themselves before the cross, recruiting the Christian faithful. Satanists will have nothing to do with any of them.”
