No, Mr. Farah. No, we CAN'T all just get along – because Donald Trump and his supporters are scum.
My own family has quit speaking to me because I insulted the great Donald on Facebook. Why would a God-fearing Southern Baptist woman who thinks preachers who don't use the King James Version of the Bible are too liberal be so in love with Trump that she has disowned the child she gave birth to? Because – and I cannot tell you how much it pains me to say this – the woman is a racist. Quite frankly, I never realized how very racist my family was until the Trump campaign came along. Now I am horrified. And yet, I am not the one who quit speaking to THEM. THEY quit speaking to ME.
I live in Georgia. Perhaps you heard about the results of our district conventions from last weekend. Perhaps you saw the video of the Trump supporters stomping out and taking the American flag with them after a Trump supporter was voted off the slate. What you probably didn't hear was that the Trump campaign published the phone numbers of all the district chairs on Facebook, and those people spent the last week fielding obscene and threatening phone calls from his supporters.
So yes, these people are our real enemies. My Bernie-loving relatives are still speaking to me. My Bush and Kasich supporting friends didn't send me hate mail when I posted cartoons ridiculing THEIR candidates. I would have supported any of the other 16 GOP candidates. But not Trump. Never Trump.
Donald Trump has ruined the Republican Party. We had a chance to not only win this election, but to put the most conservative president since Ronald Reagan in the White House. All of that is gone now. Furthermore, not only is the Republican Party damaged, but the conservative movement may be irreparably harmed. And the religious right is DEAD. Who will ever respect Jerry Fallwell Jr. after he endorsed the man who couldn't find "Two Corinthians" in the Bible if you drew him a map? The fallout from this loss will be disastrous. Anyone who supported Trump will be wiped out in the aftermath.
I will never listen to Herman Cain again. I will never watch "Hannity" or "The Five" again (and I loved that show!). Rush Limbaugh is furiously backpedaling trying to salvage his reputation. I will never vote for any politician that endorsed Trump or any local party official that voted for him. I may never see my mother or sister and brother again.
So to answer your question: Can't we all just get along? Hell no!
