Donald Trump, front-runner of the Republican Party primary for president, told the Hill in an exclusive interview from Trump Tower in New York City that the Republican National Committee was a “disgrace” and RNC chairman Reince Priebus, complicit in furthering that disgrace.

He made the remarks while discussing the RNC’s system for selecting a nominee for the White House – a system he described as both “disgrace” and “scam,” the Hill reported.

“It’s a disgrace for the party,” Trump said. “And Reince Priebus should be ashamed of himself. He should be ashamed of himself because he knows what’s going on.”

Trump’s anger most recently with the RNC is its rules for Colorado – primary rules that were set in place more than nine months ago – that awarded the state’s 34 delegates to Sen. Ted Cruz absent a primary or caucus.

“This is a dirty trick,” he said from Rome, New York, on Tuesday, “and the RNC should be ashamed of itself for allowing this to happen.”

He furthered that argument in his interview with the Hill.

“It should go to a vote in Colorado like other places,” he said. “The best way to do it would be just a vote, should be a vote of the people. That’s the way it should be done. The delegate situation is a very unjust way of doing things.”

And asked if Priebus ought to step away from his chairman role at the RNC, Trump said this, the Hill reported: “I haven’t given that any thought.”

Priebus hit back shortly after, tweeting out this scathing response: “Nomination process known for a year + beyond. It’s the responsibility of the campaigns to understand it. Complaints now? Give us all a break.”

Cruz, meanwhile, said similarly during an interview on Glenn Beck’s online radio show.

“Apparently,” he said, “when anyone votes against him, it’s an act of theft.”

At a San Diego campaign stop, Cruz hit at Trump’s criticism of the nomination process head on, saying: “Donald, it ain’t stealing when the voters vote against you. It is the voters reclaiming this country and reclaiming sanity,” MSNBC reported.
