It’s hard to imagine how the GOP ever came to be run by the so-called “elites” that Trump has banished so easily this primary season.
There was in fact nothing “elite” about them. Even when given leadership positions and a majority in both the Senate and the House by Republican voters, the “elites” willingly accepted loser status to the Democratic Party and its agenda of class warfare used to rip America apart and make it a dysfunctional laughingstock in the world.
The GOP “elites” sent to Congress two years ago were of such poor moral character that they never even attempted a skirmish, let alone a battle, to halt Obama’s war on the American middle class.
The Republican congressional win even in the face of Romney’s presidential defeat gave them the most powerful weapon in the constitutional arsenal – the federal purse strings. What did they do with it? Nothing. In fact, they did worse than nothing. No, they went even further: They conspired against those who sent them. They committed electoral treason against the great middle economic strata of America who trusted them yet one more time and voted them into power!
There is nothing “elite” about treachery and treason. It’s not a class act, and it never has been. Leadership often costs something on a personal level. But our “elites” weren’t about to pay a penny out of their own pockets. Instead, they picked our pockets.
Democrats, for all the faults of their ideology, at least have the decency to pursue the agenda they articulated and their voters supported during the election, once they take office.
Whether Democrat or Republican, however, leadership is no place to put people of poor moral character. They will do exactly what has been done to us since at least the time that President Eisenhower warned about the dangers of the military-industrial complex, because of the huge amounts of taxpayer money involved. But society has advanced since then. Now we have added the high-tech-billionaire complex, the bio-tech billionaire complex, the big-pharma complex, and an army of lobbyists supported by the multinational corporations behind them whose executives find it easier and cheaper to buy legislators than defeat competitors on the marketplace battlefield. It really is a disgrace that Washington, D.C., produces nothing that benefits America, yet costs so much to run.
Trump may or may not fix it. But at least he can’t be bought for a few thousand bucks deposited into a campaign slush fund leading up to the next election. The money was only ever used to lie to the rest of us, anyway. And if we are exceedingly lucky, the “elites” will continue to expose themselves during the general election campaign as well. America can’t afford any more of Washington’s product: a cesspool of regulation designed to strangle Main Street, and accompanying special-interest exemptions for Wall Street and the foreign capitals beyond.
Pretty much mob-style, pay-to-play government. The people who have paid the most are the middle class. The people who have gained the most are the “elites.” Let’s have a moment of silence – or perhaps a Bronx cheer – in honor of their demise.
