How did American public schools from coast to coast find themselves being ordered by the president of the United States, without any input from the people, any discussion by Congress and no consent of any court in the country, to allow "transgender" students to use the restrooms and locker rooms of their chosen sexual "identity"?
It's a good question, isn't it?
I mean, think back 40 years ago, 30 years ago, 20 years ago – was something like this even on the radar screen? Was it imaginable, conceivable?
I'm really asking two questions here:
- Could you have imagined in 2016 that the major "civil rights" initiative being pushed by one of the two major political parties, the entire media establishment and virtually every major cultural institution in the country would be mandating that men who self-identify as women should be permitted to use the restrooms and locker rooms of their choice and vice versa?
- Could you have foreseen that constitutionally limited government would degenerate to the point in 2016 that a president, in the closing days of his administration, would attempt to force every public school and public college in the country to adopt such rules or face a loss of federal aid?
I'll ask another question: Could you have predicted it in 1996 – the year the Congress of the United States overwhelmingly approved the Defense of Marriage Act, defining marriage as an institution between one man and one woman? Not only was it approved in the House with the support of all Republicans and opposition of just 65 Democrats, and unanimously by Republicans in the Senate with only 14 Democrats opposing it, the legislation was signed into law by Democratic President Bill Clinton.
Bills just don't get passed by sweeping majorities like that unless they are non-controversial.
The next question for you is this: Could you have seen what was coming in 2003 when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down all existing state anti-sodomy laws in the Lawrence v. Texas case – a case that arose because of a setup in which police were called about a crime being committed in an apartment complex, only to discover two men performing unnatural sex acts at the scene?
I'll tell you who warned us what was to follow that overreaching decision – Justice Antonin Scalia in his bold dissent.
He predicted 13 years ago that case would inevitably lead to same-sex marriage – something his critics scoffed at and mocked. He predicted it would lead to polygamy – group marriages – which is surely right around the corner. But even he, in all his wisdom, did not see this "transsexual" idea coming. May he rest in peace – because the rest of us surely won't.
How did it happen?
It's called incrementalism.
No one in their right mind would have suggested the radical social changes we are seeing today 20 years ago. No one in their right mind would have suggested them even a decade ago. Now, those who express skepticism over them are labeled bigots by members of the Supreme Court, the press, the Democrats, corporate America and, of course, Hollywood and academia.
It happened in small pieces that didn't seem significant at the time.
Homosexuals were granted anti-discrimination privileges in housing – no matter who owned the house and no matter what their religious views were.
Homosexuals were granted anti-discrimination privileges in adoption of children.
Homosexuals were given special privileges for medical insurance benefits for their partners.
Homosexuals were given special privileges for hospital visitations with their partners.
Homosexuals won the battle for enlistment in the military by pushing a policy called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Then homosexuals won the battle for open enlistment in the military by overturning "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
Homosexuals won the battle for civil unions with their partners.
Homosexuals won the battle with the Boy Scouts for openly homosexual scoutmasters and openly homosexual scouts.
Homosexuals won the battle to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act in the Supreme Court.
Homosexuals won the battle for same-sex marriage.
Homosexuals used the threat of boycotts to win over corporate America, including the NBA and the NFL.
Homosexuals won the battle to create "Gay Pride Month."
Homosexuals won the battle to recruit kids to their lifestyle in the schools – even at the kindergarten level.
And now, with the help of a tyrannical Democratic president willing to shred the Constitution, along with its checks and balances on power and with total disregard for the will of the people, they are winning the battle to open every public restroom and locker room in the country to those who merely say they identify with the opposite sex.
Where does this end?
God only knows.
But, I suspect it is in a country that has nearly totally forsaken Him.
