Dear Mr. Buchanan,
I read your "Who promoted Private Ryan?" column today and could not agree more. Paul Ryan has the opportunity to get on The Trump Train and become maybe the most consequential GOP speaker in our lifetime, and he can't even see what's happening around him … truly pathetic.
My evolving take on Ryan is that he actually is kind of a policy wonk that enjoys writing and endlessly fine-tuning term papers (aka legislative bills) on the perfect tax or budget plan or welfare program, but nothing ever seems to come off his policy wonk assembly line and become implemented. The term papers just sit on the shelf and are useful for him to refer to when we taxpayers accuse the GOP Congress of doing nothing. In response, we hear about all of those well-written and well-intentioned term papers on the shelf as proof of just how busy he and his GOP establishment buddies have been … if only they had a GOP president.
