(CNBC) U.S. stocks traded in a range Thursday, amid declines in oil prices, as investors eyed the busiest day of the earnings season.
Stocks held mixed, off session lows, in afternoon trade. The Dow Jones industrial average traded little changed after earlier falling 100 points. Boeing had the greatest negative impact on the index. Caterpillar, Chevron and Exxon Mobil also weighed on the index as most components traded lower.
The U.S. dollar index strengthened against the yen in afternoon trade after a Reuters report raised speculation the Japanese government is pressuring the country's central bank to ease. The newswire cited a draft statement from the Ministry of Finance.
